PREVNet - http://www.prevnet.ca/ Dr. Wayne MacKay - http://www.prevnet.ca/partners/researchers/dr-wayne-mackay Restorative PracticesRainy River District OPP uses a community mobilization and engagement approach in response to bullying and cyberbullying. Our District ensures sustainability of our community policing initiatives by engaging and empowering our communities to work along side of our police officers. OPP has certified over 40 educators within the Rainy River District School Board to facilitate Restorative Practices (RP). RP has helped to ensure there is a victim centred/non-punitive approach to bullying that helps transform conflict through the process of accountability.
In addition, the OPP has certified members of the Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (SALT) (www.ffsalt.com) committee to facilitate RP. The partnership ensures an inter-generational approach to resolving conflict. Seniors are a wealth of knowledge and experience. By including seniors from our communities with policing initiatives, we have demonstrated an even greater outcome when providing support for our school boards, educators, youth and their families.
